The room is richly furnished. The walls are decorated with
expensive oil paintings of the renaissance era. From the
sitting room, a spiral flight of stairs leads up to Tahari’s
room, a young teenage girl. As one nears her door, one can
hear a cacophony of noises, presumably, and argument.
TAHARI
What are you doing in my room? Dad
said that no one should enter my
room, you could have atleast
knocked.
JOE
I was just coming to check up on
you, do you need anything?
TAHARI
No, I am fine.
JOE
(Sits on the bed where Tahari
is lying and sits extremely
close)
You know I care for you.
TAHARI
Stop touching me. Dad said that no
one should touch me that way.
Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. Instantaneously,Joe
gets up and goes to open. Two young men of Joe’s age get in.

them, ok?
TAHARI
It’s Ok, just do not bring them

Joe and his friends head out noisily. Oteraw and Ritho can
be heard from the hallway still complaining about being

OTERAW

Oteraw slaps her and she falls to the ground. Slowly, he
unzips his pants.
OTERAW
Relax baby, usikuwe hivyo, utaskia

TAHARI
Joe, what is happening? Please tell
them to stop, please…
OTERAW
Nyamaza! Si ulikuwa na maringo
sana. Sasa wacha tuone mahali hio

As he lowers himself on to Tahari, Tahari gets into a
position where she bites off his ear lob.
OTERAW
Aiyaya, hiki kidame kimeniuma.
Angrily, he slaps Tahari and she loses consciounsess. They
continue to rape her violently. Oteraw goes first and each
one of them takes a turn.
INT. WARD ROOM. MID MORNING
It is a dull hospital room. The walls are white with cheap
paintings of green utopian lands with an occasional flower
vase, maybe to improve the feng shui of the room. Tahari
lies on the bed and she slowly regains consciouness.
MR. ABASS
Oh switty, you are awake. I was so
worried about you.
TAHARI
(weakly)
Da..dadd…y where am I?

MR. ABASS
(moving closer to her and
clasping her hand in his)
You are at the Nairobi women’s
hospital. Here they will take care
of you and you will be just fine.
TAHARI
Were Joe and his friends arrested
for what they did to me?
MR. ABASS
Just rest my love, do not exert
yourself. We can talk about all
this when you are out of the
hospital.
TAHARI
(angrily)
No dad. Answer me. Right now, I
need to know
MR. ABASS
You know Joe is your mother’s
youngest brother. If we take
him to the police, he might be
imprisoned for a long time. Is that
how you want us to treat family?
TAHARI
(putting up a fight)
I cannot believe you right now.
Kindly, just live. Go away
Mr. Abass gets up and proceeds to the door. He calls a
nurse. The nurse gets in, needle in hand.
TAHARI
No..no..no, you will not do that to
me no, dad, please…pl..
Tahari is finally subdued and she sleeps.
INT. BREW BISTRO NGONG ROAD. EVENING
Fourteen years have passed after Tahari’s rape ordeal. She
has now grown into a rich, succesful and beautiful woman.
Tahari is seated in a posh night club, sipping her drink
quietly. Her mind lost in thought. Her wounds healed but her
scars ever present albeit to remind her that the past is
real.

TAHARI
(shouting)
Hey Jim, I need a refill. You need
to know your customers and treat
them right, otherwise they will
just leave.
JIM
Alright ma’am, one bourbon coming
right up.
TAHARI
You better hurry, don’t keep a lady
waiting.
Suddenly, a figure emerges from the darkness and comes and
sits at the counter where Tahari is seated.
ONYANGO OYOO
Jim, gimme what the lady is having.
TAHARI
Excuse me, do I know you?
ONYANGO OYOO
(winks)
How about we leave this place, get
into my Merc, take a ride round the
city as I intoduce my self?
TAHARI
(Shrugging)
You guys never learn. I’d suggest
John Green’s Art of Seduction
because honestly, your wooing game
is on all time low. Hey Jim, bring
me a bottle at that table before I
call security on this one.
ONYANGO OYOO
(Leaning forward)
Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to
startle you, please forgive me.
As Onyango Oyoo leans forward, Tahari notices that part of
his ear lobe is missing.
TAHARI
(using a more seductive tone)
You know I might just take you on
that offer. Lets get lost, this
place is starting to bore me.

ONYANGO OYOO
(smiling)
And yet I thought you’d never ask.
INT.RADISSON BLUE HOTEL. EVENING.
Onyango is naked laying on the bed. His arms tied to the
bed. Tahari looks over him in disgust.
TAHARI
(pacing round)
Let me tell you a story from the
animal kingdom. I love animals by
the way. We have so much in common.
No matter how civilised we are, we
all have a beast within, oh I
digress.
(smiling)
Back to the story. Mother sheep
leaves her children in the care of
her best friend hyena.
(Chuckling)
Not a smart thing to do but sheep
aren’t famous for their brain power
and don’t get me started on hyenas.
As the mother is away, the hyena
helps himself to the children.
However, one of them escapes and
from a distance watches the horror
unfold. When the mother comes back,
she is too afraid and does nothing.
So the child that escapes grows up
hoping to get her revenge and at
the same time blaming her mother
for not doing anything. She prays
for days on end for her chance at
revenge. And here we are, Oteraw.
Fourteen years ago you brutally
raped me, broke four of my ribs and
literally left me for dead. But I
did not die. My yearning for
revenge kept me alive. And here we
are.
ONYANGO OYOO
(afraid)
Oh my God, it is
you…pp…p..please forgive me..
TAHARI
(menacingly)
I asked the same of you, but you
did not extend that to me. Tonight,

TAHARI (cont’d)
you will die. All men die. But I
guarnatee you, I will take my time.
You see, over the years I have
learnt that patience is a virtue
and as a result, I will savour this
moment, as you patiently wait for
your death. I will walk you through
the tight rope of life and
death,carefully making sure you do
not fall on the other side. And
when I’m done, you will die.
